A Big
January 16th will live on with great God-made memories through His People on the occasion of the supper benefit toward Wayne's medical expenses. There were tables full of people eating (over 225?), tables full of silent auction items and tables full of baked goods. All total with a $1000 matching fund from Thrivent Financial, over $7000 was raised. It is a small amount in light of the need, but was given with a big set of hearts.
A huge thank you again goes out to Bruce & Sandy Paskewitz (Bruce shifts the main thanks to Sandy!), & about 38 volunteers who helped before and after the event. This is, of course, along with the many who came, sharing their presence & financial donations.
The previous Sunday led the way as Wayne shared a moving testimony during the worship service about God's rich faithfulness and strength through his whole ordeal. Please continue to keep Wayne & Connie in your prayers and support in any way you can as he continues to heal, while still facing multiple challenges.

Back by popular demand, Cecil has been invited again and has graciously accepted our invitation to host the variety show. Although he can't be with us until that night. So, if you are willing to share wholesome talent (serious or funny), please sign up on the sheet on the hallway bulleting board by the kitchen AND talk to LEE P. about what you have planned.

Getting Better Acquainted
With
Bruce Paskewitz
"Where did I grow up? I'm not sure I ever have. I've lived in the same house since it was built in 1963, except for my college years. I've been raised in a loving Christian family. I made my faith my own when I was baptized on Easter 1970. Since then, there has been an ongoing search to become a Christian in substance rather than just in name.
There are three things in life that matter to me: My faith, My family & My family's farm.
Scriptural quote: Matthew 13:44
G.K. Chesterton once said "The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult and left untried."
(I Want) to be a part of something larger than myself. (I Want) to be a valued member of a team.
I have three children, Emily(24) who is a graduate student at the University of Northern Iowa. Andrew (22) who is a senior at NDSU, studying engineering. Sarah (15) who is a sophomore at SMHS. My brothers are Alan, Lee and Gary. Gary and his family live near St. Cloud. My itsy bitsy teeny weenie baby sister is married to Wayne Allen and lives in Cottage Grove, MN where he is a pastor of the Discovery Church. Louise teaches school. My parents are Robert & Phyllis Hanson Paskewitz.
My beloved wife, Sandy, & I were married on April 17, 1982 in Truman, MN. What a Blessing....
I love our church because we take the Lord seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. We value people of all ages. The Church is willing to allow me to be squirrelly & still love me."

Feb. 14th C.A.R.E. Emphasis Sunday
What in the world does C.A.R.E. stand for? This is our community's recent way to moblilize together to better use God's resources and help those who call for help with gas, groceries, a meal and sometimes home fuel assistance, rent, or utility bills that are not connected with a local church. C stands for Christ's compassion. A stands for accountability. R stands for respect. E stands for ecumenical.
On February 14th, churches are encouraged to highlight the CARE mjinistry in someway and we plan to do so. If you are a part of the Staples Church of Christ, you are helping to contribute as we share financially to CARE out of our benevolence line item in our church budget. THANK YOU.....
The five member CARE board meets monthly to talk over the recent month's requests and pray for each person. CARE also has three general meetings a year where anyone that is interested can come to help in specific ways.
